Anuj the manager of Maven Moving Inc who offered the quote was friendly at first but turned out to be very shady.
Upon accepting the initial offer he called me and told me to withold information from the movers that show up on site - that if they asked, I tell them I didn't use Wise Move and that rather he was a known contact.
Second, he very clearly submitted a low-ball/attractive offer in order to win the business, with the intention of ambushing us later claiming that we had more than we communicated. Even though all our items were listed and very clearly shown in the pictures. Anuj then tried to increase the cost from $800 - $1,200 during and after the move.
When I countered with sound logic, he became aggressive calling me disloyal. Finally ready to reach a compromise, I offered to pay $1,000 to resolve this issue - even though I felt that we were being gouged. We even tipped his movers handsomely, appreciative of their work. However, it was very clear this was Anuj's plan from the start.
In terms of timing, the mover's arrived almost 3 hours late. The transfer from Oakville to Toronto west-end took ~2 hours - post rush hour. The movers ended up leaving our home at nearly 3AM. Another point that Anuj claimed was why he was charging us more.
Post-move, upon reviewing all of our items thoroughly, we believe that at minimum of 1-2 boxes were missing. Impossible to catch at the time. However, having gone through each box, it's clear things were taken at some point.
Initially I was pleased with the quoting process, initial communications, then things got weirder and weirder. By being told not to tell the movers the origin of the job, to trying to gauge us mid-move. We felt taken advantage of with the price increase mid-move through text communications while the movers were still present. We fed the movers and tipped them well grateful of their service. But we have a feeling they may have been told to take items as insurance.
Either way, beware of this moving company. This is the first time using this service, and I likely won't be returning. Get a referral from a person you know. Or at very least, don't go with Maven moving.
Response from Maven Moving Inc
Dear Matthew,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. My name is Anuj Khurana, owner of Maven Moving Inc., and I would like to personally address each of your concerns with full clarity and transparency.
1. Regarding the Movers (Gurpinderjeet & Sahil) and Our Privacy Policy
I provided your quotation based on the information you shared. The movers assigned—Gurpinderjeet and Sahil—are part of our team and known to us. As per our company policy, we do not disclose our business sources or platforms to our crew members. This is a standard privacy practice and does not mean your move was subcontracted. They were our employees performing your move.
2. Inventory Difference & Updated Pricing
Our quotations are based on the inventory and details provided by each client. When our team arrived, they found significantly more items than what was listed on the platform. This naturally increased the workload and time. My staff explained the updated cost before starting the move, and you agreed. Later, when payment was requested, you initially mentioned the transfer was completed. The next day, we discussed it again and mutually agreed on a final amount of $1000, which we honoured.
3. Delay in Arrival
I acknowledge that the team arrived later than expected due to delays and heavier-than-usual traffic. I personally apologised on the same day and kept you updated regarding their arrival time. We strive to be punctual, and I am sorry for the inconvenience caused.
4. Completion of Move, Final Inspection & Missing Item Claim
Your move was completed on September 24th. At the end of every move, we always ask our clients to inspect the truck to ensure it is completely empty and all items have been offloaded. This step is important for both the customer and the company. It is also the client’s responsibility to verify at that moment if anything is missing or out of place. After two months of the job being completed, no moving company can take responsibility for missing items, as too much time has passed and accuracy cannot be verified. Our team worked continuously for 12 hours and assisted with everything requested. The pricing reflected the actual workload, and we genuinely deny any false allegations regarding missing items, as all proper procedures were followed during the move and final inspection.
In Closing
I sincerely apologise if your experience did not meet your expectations. We aim to deliver honest, reliable, and professional service, and we will continue improving wherever necessary.
Thank you again for your feedback. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify and improve.
Sincerely,
Anuj Khurana
Owner, Maven Moving Inc.
